What’s a Certified Arborist?

An arborist by definition is a person who’s trained in the art and science of planting, caring for, and maintaining trees. ISA arborist certification is a non governmental, purely voluntary process by which people can document their base of knowledge. It operates with out mandate of law and is an internal, self-regulating system administered by the International Society of Arboriculture. Certification offers a measurable examination of an individual’s knowledge and competence regarding proper tree care.

Certification can attest to the tree knowledge of a person but can’t guarantee or ensure high quality performance. Just like an attorney or surgeon.

Certified Arborists are people who have accomplished a degree of knowledge in the art and science of tree care through experience and by passing a comprehensive examination created by some of the nation’s top specialists on tree care. Certified Arborists should also continue their education to preserve their certification. Consequently, they’re much more likely to be up to date on the most recent methods in arboriculture.
